Wobbly Terms of Service
Effective date: September 6, 2026
These terms are a contract between you and MakingThings ("we", "us") covering your use of the Wobbly iOS app and this website. By downloading or using Wobbly you agree to them. Wobbly is intended to be used by children under the supervision and with the consent of a parent or legal guardian; the account-free setup, purchases, and these terms are directed at, and may only be accepted by, an adult.
1. License
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Wobbly on Apple devices that you own or control, for personal, non-commercial use by your family, in accordance with Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions (including the App Store's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement). You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, rent, reverse-engineer, or extract the app's content (including letter-formation data, artwork, the Wobbly mascot, and audio) except as permitted by law.
2. Free trial, free tier, and purchases
- 7-day free trial. Every new family gets seven days of full access, starting from the moment setup is completed. It requires no card, no account, and no sign-up, and it cannot bill you. When the seven days are up it simply lapses to the free tier; there is nothing to cancel and nothing is charged.
- Free tier. Free for as long as you like: letters A–E and numbers 0–3 in both cases with the whole tracing experience, the first 20 reading words and the sentences that close the first level, the first treasure chest of each of the first two reading levels, all seven listening games, every letter's sound and picture words, up to three child profiles, the grown-up zone with a weekly report card, and the last three stroke recordings and worksheets for each letter. The free tier does not include the interactive storybooks, the later reading levels, or unlimited recordings.
- Full Access (one-time purchase). A single payment unlocks all letters and numbers, whole words to trace, the full learn-to-read journey, the interactive storybooks, unlimited stroke recordings and worksheets, advanced replay, and practice insights, for every child profile and for every device signed in to your Apple Account, permanently. Family Sharing is enabled, so the purchase covers your family group. There is no subscription and no recurring charges.
- Opening the app before you buy. Until Full Access is purchased, each launch is opened by a grown-up with Face ID, Touch ID, or the PIN. Once the trial has lapsed, the purchase screen may be shown to that grown-up after the unlock, always with a clear decline. Children are never shown a price or a purchase screen.
All payments are processed by Apple. Prices are shown in your local currency before purchase and may change for future purchases (never retroactively for a completed one-time purchase). Refunds are handled by Apple under their refund policy, request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. If a payment fails or is pending, the app gracefully stays on the free tier; your child's progress is never deleted or held hostage.
3. Purchases are for grown-ups
All purchase functionality sits behind a parent gate (Face ID / Touch ID or PIN). You are responsible for keeping your PIN and device authentication away from your children, and for any purchases made through your Apple ID. We never show prices or purchase buttons to children.
4. Your content stays yours (and stays local)
Everything created in Wobbly (traces, recordings, profiles) is stored only on your device and belongs to you. We claim no rights over it and have no access to it. See the Privacy Policy. Because data is device-local, deleting the app deletes the data; we cannot recover it for you. The optional iCloud backup is your responsibility to enable and is governed by Apple's iCloud terms.
5. Educational disclaimer
Wobbly is a practice tool that follows common letter-formation conventions for U.S. English print (manuscript) writing. It is not a substitute for instruction by a teacher and we make no guarantee of specific educational outcomes. Handwriting curricula differ; if your child's school teaches different stroke orders, the school's way wins.
6. Warranty disclaimer
Wobbly is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the maximum extent permitted by law. Some jurisdictions don't allow such exclusions, so parts of this may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits any non-waivable statutory consumer rights.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or loss of data, arising from your use of Wobbly. Our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid for it in the twelve months before the claim arose.
8. Apple's role
These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide support or maintenance for Wobbly and is not responsible for any claims relating to the app, but Apple (and its subsidiaries) is a third-party beneficiary of these terms and may enforce them against you.
9. Termination
You may stop using Wobbly at any time by deleting the app. We may terminate this license if you materially breach these terms. Sections 4–8 survive termination.
10. Changes
We may update these terms for future versions of the app. Material changes will be noted in the App Store release notes and on this page with a new effective date. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the new terms.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, United States of America, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and subject to any mandatory consumer-protection law of your country of residence.
